SB Gives Back :: Wounded Warriors
On May 30 I sat in a large gymnasium and watched as my husband marched into the room along with 150 other soldiers. His unit had just returned from Afghanistan and this was the first time I had seen him in person for 11 months. It is hard to describe the feeling that over came me. I was over joyed to see him again and to be just minutes away from being in his arms but there was an overwhelming feeling of relief as well. Relief that he had not been injured in the line of duty and that he was even making it home at all.
As I approach this week I can not help but remember this feeling. July 4 will not be a normal day for my family. The independence that we celebrate by going to the beach and watching fireworks has become more real to me than it ever was before. It is only by the grace of God that I can celebrate this day with my husband. As I am overcome with gratitude I can’t help but think of the family’s that are spending this day without their loved ones. Or of the family’s whose lives have been turned upside down because their soldier came home wounded, either physically or mentally.
The Wounded Warrior Project has thought of these families as well and they are doing something about it. The project started after several veterans heard the stories of wounded soldiers coming home from Iraq and Afghanistan. They started by supplying the soliders with comfort items but the project has turned into a complete rehabilitation effort to assist the wounded as they transition back to life as a civilian. Beyond that they walk with the soldiers as they continue their lives at home. As of March 2013 The Wounded Warrior Project has assisted over 30,000 soldiers.
September’s Bride would like to invite you to get involved. July 3- July 6 September’s Bride is going to be giving a portion of every sale to The Wounded Warrior Project. If you have a wedding coming up, whether it is your wedding or you are attending a wedding, we invite you to come and find a dress, or find the perfect accessories and give to the soldiers that fought for the Independence we celebrate this week.
